Thought of the Day #223 - Wide

I'm so excited! I ordered a new ultra wide angle lens for my camera and
it should be arriving tomorrow! It's like Christmas eve and I'm waiting
on Santa!!

A Little Visitor

What I couldn't capture in this picture taken today? The almost dizzyingly sweet smell of the butterfly bush.

Thought of the Day #195 - Silly Faces

I've been looking through photos of me posted from last week's BBWNetwork Vegas bash. I'm a goof. Seriously. I pull too many silly faces. I know I do once in a while for this site, but the other 'public consumption' ones should be nicer...especially since I have no control over their distribution. Do I consider that at the time?? Of course not. boo. Oh, and that cold? Still surfing that, too. Wipe out!

Thought of the Day #175 - Air Burial

Crazy lookin' birds, but soooo awesome, too. I haven't ever seen them here in Utah before yesterday. I've only seen one in the wild a few years ago while trekking through Death Valley.

They reminded me of the concept of an "air burial" that is performed in some parts of the world. Basically, the body is chopped up and placed on a "air burial" platform or location where meat eating birds frequent. The birds eat the flesh and you ~soar~ into the afterlife (or lack thereof). While the idea is a bit creepy, there's a complete homage to the circle of life that I sincerely appreciate. In fact, if they offered that as an option here, I would definitely request it upon my demise.

This Thistle

The bumble bee just happened to fly in and pose for me. I appreciate when the wildlife behaves like that. So considerate!

It's coming for you!!

I had to take a picture of this cactus last week. Looked too cartoon-y to pass up. I added the eyes and mouth, so don't you worry that that was natural.

A pretty Saguaro Photo

I took this while in the Saguaro National Park. Most of the cacti were blooming which gave them a unique crown look. This one was blooming mostly to the side. Dunno why...

Pretty Poser

This mountain blue bird gave me plenty of time to take his (her?) picture. I think he liked the attention...

Are you? Well, ARE YOU?

Are you stopping to smell the blossoms??

Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Here are a few doll parts that were found on Friday. One giant arm and two heads. As I mentioned in the previous ToTD, you never know what you might find in the dirt.

Zoom!

I bought a new zoom lens for my Canon XTi. Just got it yesterday and I'm already loving it. Skittish wildlife is suddenly soooo much more accessible.

Photos of the Week

Time seriously moves faster for me...so, ummm...the "weekly" timing of the photos is more like 10-14 days. I guess that's more like a dog-week, right? Ahem. Anyway, this week's photo is posted, as well as several previous weeks, too.

Photos of the Week

I forget that people subscribe to the RSS feed are unaware of the new "Photo Selection of the Week". I shall remedy that today. Hey, you, it's posted! Click here for this week's retro inspired fat chick selection.

Horsing Around

I took this picture the other day while at the step-son-in-law's mom's house. (I should have just said, "a friend's" house...let's keep it nice and generic, shall we? How lame does it look to have a double possession of thrice removal? So, yeah. It just seemed like a stark reminder that childhood does end, it gets overgrown and forgotten in a far away field. Then again, maybe it's a reminder that the wilds of childhood spirit lives! Eh, maybe it's just open to interpretation of mood.

Proof that our Judicial System Works

Sure, the guy (girl?) may still be breaking the law, but crap, look at that raw honesty!
I snapped this yesterday afternoon in downtown Salt Lake. It brought me a sweet chuckle. You can click the image to see the full railroad car shot. Well, I did shrink it quite a bit down for ease of viewing, but you get the idea.
On a similar note, is it just me or is it really hard to read most stylized graffiti? I mean some of it is so freakin' pretty, but I know they're trying to say *something*, but the stylizing makes it impossible to read. You know, if I were ~out there~ tagging around my 'hood, I wouldn't know who I was competing against. I'd say, "Yeah, that mo-fo, you know the one I'm talking about...the one that does (insert swirly letters here)." We'd never really be sure who we were actually competing against, dig? Maybe they ought to do their stylized versions then in really small letters underneath, put "work done by..." I'm juss'sayin'.

Festiveness

If'n you had a flock sheep in the backyard, a clever couple, a fake baby and a graphics program, look at what festiveness you could do!? This is a photo of my hubby's nephew and his wife. She came up with the idea, my hubby took the shot and I provided the lighting with a graphics program. It made for a pretty sweet holiday card for the young upstarts.

Wooohooo!

We finally broke $100 at Istockphoto.com. (They don't pay out until you hit $100.) It's been a year or so in coming, but not too shabby for a VERY passive money maker.

Roadside Giggle

I've seen this sign for several years...well, ever since I first came to Utah anyway. There are fewer and fewer of them now, unfortunately. A sign of the times in this booming development area. Especially ticklish to me is the farmer's most excellent posture. Sure, farmer Joe has had a long hard day in the field, but crap if he's going to slouch while riding the tractor back home! NO WAY! NO HOW! His chiropractor is, understandably, VERY proud.
