Supplement to Week #141 -- The
fat chick, a rant, a headless nude and more.
I've seen hundreds of sites with women fat and thin alike posting their nude photos for the world to see. Nude pictures are fabulous. The human body is quite amazing in all of the different shapes, textures, sizes and proportions that it takes on whether it be fat or not. Fat nudes are a bit more interesting because the variance between body shapes and contours is so great. This rant really isn't about nudity. It's about the "headless" nude shots that several fat sites are geared around. They don't have other photos, no, just belly shots or just leg shots or just butt shots. Faces are no where to be found on said sites. I'm all for the occasional headless nude shot like the one at the left, but I do have a problem with supposed "size acceptance" sites where there isn't a face to be found. (This rant can apply to some headless clothed sites too!)
Why does it bother me? Several reasons. (1). If one is purporting to be proud of their body, they should be proud of their head as well, eh? The head and face really play an important role with the body. Without said head, the body would cease to be animated, for instance. It can't talk. It can't see. It can't hear. It can't sense. It really goes without saying that without the head, the body is nothing more than a 'receptacle', which leads to-- (2). It's completely objectification of the body without regard to the person. The woman who puts up this site (or man!) is usually trying to gain some sort of validation, but without the face, what's getting validated? Not much more than a parking spot, in my opinion. Sure, people objectify women who have faces in their shots too. I'm more than well aware of that. That brings to mind a time when I met Russell Williams a self professed size activist, as a matter of fact. Someone introduced me to him and he said "Oh, I didn't recognize you. I only look at your body in the photos." Nice. The man lost all of my respect at that point, but, I digress. Clearly objectification is more likely to occur when there is no 'facial interference'. Eyes have a way of letting a viewer know that there is a soul in the photo, not just a nice set of tits. (Really, that sentence sounded cooler before I typed it...) (3) The audience of said site may draw the conclusion that the woman is putting up headless nude pictures to vent a wee bit of exhibitionism BUT is afraid that it may be discovered by X (x=lover, husband, boss, coworkers, family, mom, dad, etc, etc). For gawdsakes, keep your clothes on if you fear that someone may see your nude photos. The internet is a huge place, but cosmic karma has a way of making sure that said photos will show up in the wrong hands. If you are worried about having your photos (nude or otherwise) discovered, DON'T DO IT, DO NOT SEND THEM IN EMAIL NOR POST THEM ON A WEB SITE. There are plenty of other venues at which to play your exhibitionism that won't come floating back in email from your mother.
You know, I could be wrong, so I'll stop right there.
