Thought of the Day #122 - Odyssey

I'm waxing nostalgic about the first video game system that we had as a kid -- the Odyssey. It had plastic overlays that you applied to your television screen. It was slow and not very exciting...except that it *was* exciting back then. My favorite game was the one that had the haunted house overlay. If I remember right, there was a gun and the point was to shoot at the dot that showed up behind the overlay. I was a ghost hunter, dang it! I was able to find a picture of the overlay online. Ahhh, classic goodness. I wish I had the overlays now, although I don't know what I'd do with them? Use them as dust shields on the HDTV?

Ah thats what the odyssey is. I thought it was one of the paddle games where you smashed a square (ball) about the screen with a rectangle (angry batsman). The odyssey looks fascinating, never knew about them till now. Its nice to know the early form of computer games still involved a gun :p

It had a square ball for pretty much every game. That's why there was the "fancy" overlays.
I don't recall if this game had pong or if it was Atari that came out with the moving and not just blipping square? So many years ago....
