Thought of the Day #108 - Sports Talk

If you were to listen to a sportscaster or a sports reporter talking about a game, but you weren't able to understand the words, I'm guessing most people could easily recognize it as "sports talk." The staccato spacing of the words, the inflection and tone -- all unique to sportscasting. I don't know if that's the way it is around the world, but in the US it's pretty discernible. I wonder how it all started? Is it based upon the feel or timing of the game or is it falsified enthusiasm to encourage us to get excited in the "action"?
